Israeli police and riot police keep back a crowd of Palestinian Muslims who push to break past barricades at the Damascus gate (not seen) as a police water cannon sprays the crowds with a 'skunk' liquid on 19 August 2011. Israel restricted attendance at the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem's Old City for the third Friday prayers in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, to men over the age of 50, but women were allowed to enter. Some scuffles broke out at the Damascus Gate before the prayers began as people tried to break through police lines to enter the old city, and Israeli police used mounted officers and sprayed 'skunk' spray to control the crowds.
